Armadale is one of the fastest growing areas in Perth and with this rapid urban sprawl comes a loss of tree canopy and a greater need to plant and maintain trees in our neighbourhoods, creating what is known as an 'urban forest'.
An urban forest can be defined as all vegetation growing within the urban and peri-urban environment. This can be grouped into two main categories:
- The understorey (vegetation up to 3m); and
- The tree canopy, vegetation above 3m
Establishing trees in residential streets is an essential part of expanding the current canopy cover and offers residents many benefits such as:
