Successful Night Fields Returns

Night Fields will return for another series during October and November at Gwynne Park, following a successful pilot in May this year, attracting 400 young people aged 6-18 years across four sessions of football and netball, provided free by the City of Armadale in partnership with the WA Football Commission and supported by Telstra.

Night Fields will be held on Wednesday afternoons between 4.30pm and 6pm on 25 October, 1st, 8th and 15th November.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM said the May edition of Night Fields is such a success story for the City of Armadale, encouraging young people in the area to get active, connect with new friends and local sporting clubs.

“Night Fields also celebrates the diversity of our City, with 43% of May participants identifying as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders or culturally and linguistically diverse,” Mayor Zelones said.

City of Armadale partner WA Football Commission (WAFC) helps to deliver the program, designed to connect communities and encourage physical activity amongst young people.

WAFC Community Engagement Coordinator for the south metropolitan area Liam Anthony said he was pleased with how well Night Fields has piloted in Armadale, and is looking forward to the next instalment during October and November.

“Night Fields is such an important program for local communities, provided free of charge to residents, linking them with their nearby sporting club, as well as community and health services in the area,” Mr Anthony said.

Participants enjoy a free dinner at the Night Fields events, and the first session held on 25 October, activities will be held for younger children on the sidelines as part of Children’s Week celebrations.
