The presentation ceremony for the winners of the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards for 2016 was held at the City of Armadale’s Administration Building, on Friday 2 September.
The City of Armadale is very keen to promote writing and creative expression by young people in our local community. This year’s award received 130 entries from students in year’s three to 12 attending school or residing in the region.
In May four free writing workshops for prospective entrants were held at the Armadale Library. The sessions were presented by 2015 Aurealis Award winning children’s writer and poet, Meg McKinlay.
Prizes included cash and book vouchers up to $200. Winners also received a trophy and certificate. The Overall Winner will have their name engraved on the Perpetual Armadale Young Writers’ Awards Trophy.
The winning stories have been compiled in an anthology which will be on display and for loan in the City of Armadale Libraries.
