The City of Armadale has extended its partnership with Kelmscott Church of Christ to continue the weekly Café Lia lunch program for another 16 weeks.
The Café Lia lunch program provides a nutritious meal in a safe environment for older people who are socially isolated, living in poverty, homeless or at a risk of homelessness.
“Over the initial 16 week period we were able to provide a large group of older people with lunches, take home meals and fresh food,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.
“During the trial period beginning in March an average of 30 elderly residents were served lunch per week through the program.
“The lunches allowed those who attended to feel connected to the community which addresses social isolation issues. Attendees were able to build friendships and interact with others in their community.
“We were kindly supported with donations from the Canning Vale Markets, Second Bite and Brumby’s Bakery.
“The team at Kelmscott Church of Christ were also able to assist a number of older people by linking them to local Community Care Services,” he said. For more information contact 9394 5642 or visit the Kelmscott Church of Christ, corner of Lake and Centre Roads, Kelmscott.
