Roadworks and Road Closure on Nicholson Road
Roadworks being undertaken by the Australian Islamic College (AIC) are currently underway along Nicholson Road in Forrestdale, impacting drivers and residents in the area. These works aim to alleviate concerns previously raised by road users about congestion at the Nicholson Road and Oxley Road intersection.
The project includes road widening, the installation of a slip lane, and the relocation of Western Power and Water Corporation assets.
The AIC is undertaking these roadworks in accordance with their approved Development Application and has engaged a contractor to complete the project. The City’s role in this process is to review and approve Traffic Management Plans to ensure road user safety and to oversee design and construction approvals to ensure compliance with approved standards.
This week, the City has met with AIC, their contractor and consultant to review progress and is in daily contact to support them and ensure all necessary safety measures are in place so that the road can be reopened as soon as possible. The City is assisting the AIC and their contractor by prioritising the approval of plans and inspections.
The City has been advised that the AIC will complete the works in early 2025, though the timeline is subject to change if unforeseen challenges arise during the remaining works.
