Seadragonz Swim School in Forrestdale has won a Switched On Business Award for their commitment to environmental sustainability and for reducing the environmental footprint of their business.
Lari McDonald, owner of Seadragonz Swim School, was awarded the Switched On Business Award by City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield.
Mayor Butterfield said the Switched On Business Awards run by Switch your Thinking are a great way to recognise, reward, and celebrate businesses that have significantly reduced their environmental footprint and excelled in taking innovative steps along their sustainability journey.
“I congratulate Lari for her strong commitment to environmental sustainability. She and her team are taking action to operate as an eco-friendly swim school business, such as recovering and recycling 100% of the water used at the facility; using ultraviolet lighting as the primary water disinfectant; switching to solar energy; having a mindset about minimising waste; and looking for options to reuse and recycle across the business, all while educating customers about sustainability practices.”
“It’s terrific to see how these efforts are really making a difference to the business’s environmental footprint,” said Mayor Butterfield.
The event was a great way to celebrate the partnership between neighbouring councils to reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions and involve businesses in energy conservation and environmentally sustainable actions.
Switch your Thinking is a Local Government sustainability initiative run through the City of Armadale, City of Gosnells and the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale. Mayor Butterfield is Chairperson of the South East Regional Energy Group which administers the Switch your Thinking program.
If you are a local business (or know of a local business) from a Switch your Thinking Council that has taken great steps to become more sustainable, consider applying for the next round closing 5 July 2022.
