The City of Armadale Libraries’ are calling for writers to send in their stories for the Armadale Writers’ Award now in its fifth year. The Award is a creative writing competition open to all adult writers living in Western Australia with a prize pool in excess of $2,000.

“The City is proud to support the Arts and we are excited to be running the Armadale Writers’ Award once again,” said Mayor Ruth Butterfield.

“Councils, such as ours, who run competitions for the Arts give much-needed encouragement and support to those embarking upon creative journeys. The Armadale Writers’ Award recognises excellence in creative writing while nurturing local talent.”

Entries will be judged by a panel of authors and librarians, focussing on originality of ideas, plot development, story structure, and the overall writing quality.

Stories must be original works not previously published, in any format, with a word count between 1,000 and 3,000 words.

For more information, including the full terms and conditions, please visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au/armadale-writers-award.

Entries for the competition are online and open from 1 to 30 September 2021.

Winners of the competition will be announced at a private award presentation on Friday 19 November. Winning stories can be read at the library website from Monday 22 November.
