In Western Australia one in 20 older people will experience some form of abuse (Advocare.org.au). The City of Armadale is hosting a presentation on elder abuse to better inform people on this subject.
Wednesday 3 June
1.30 – 4pm
Armadale Library, Armadale Central Shopping Centre
1.30 – 2.30pm
A representative from Advocare will discuss the different types of elder abuse, how to recognize if it is occurring and ways you can help those in need.
3 – 4pm
A legal representative from the Older Persons Rights Service will discuss your rights and responsibilities, family agreements and how you can protect yourself.
“Unfortunately elder abuse is a real issue for many older people. Everyone deserves to have their rights respected regardless of their age. These sessions will give the older person and concerned family or friends the opportunity to know how to identify signs of abuse and the resources to help stop the abuse from occurring,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.
Refreshments will be provided and bookings are essential. Visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au or call 9399 0125 to secure your place.
