Calling all amateur photographers to grab your cameras and help us capture Armadale’s changing face! Our annual local history photographic competition is now in its seventh year and offers amateur photographers over 18 years a chance to showcase their photography skills.
Hosted by Birtwistle Local Studies Library, the competition aims to capture present day historical reality. Historians enjoy seeing every detail of a scene, so the challenge for photographers is to balance their artistic flair and technique with faithful accuracy.
This year’s theme is Industrial Strength. We are seeking present day photos showing buildings and businesses from the industrial areas in Kelmscott, Forrestdale, and Armadale within the photograph and drone categories.
The competition’s third category is a pre-2000 Historical theme and encourages locals to find the treasures in their photo albums. Share gems from your old photo albums that show how life was in Kelmscott, Armadale, Roleystone, Forrestdale, or any of the suburbs within the City of Armadale’s borders pre-2000.
Winners will share in a $1,800 prize pool and receive a large acrylic mounted print of their image. The competition runs from Tuesday 1 February to Thursday 31 March 2022. The online entry form will only be available during this time, but we encourage you to search your albums and start taking photos now.
