The seventh meeting of the LIC Armadale/Murray Local Implementation Committee (LIC) was held at the Shire of Murray on Tuesday 1 July 2014.
Chairperson of the LIC, Mayor Henry Zelones said “The LIC acknowledged the progress of the Human Resources Working Group who reported they are continuing the work begun when SJ were involved in the working group, to prepare for the reform decision.
“They’re considering how staff of all three Councils, who would potentially be affected by the proposal, will be accommodated and looked after and how transition from three Council’s to two, will work.
“The LIC noted that the last round of submissions to the Local Government Advisory Board (LGAB) closed on Thursday 26 June 2014 and that no date has been confirmed for the LGAB to deliver its recommendations to the Minister on the 38 proposals submitted for their consideration.
“The LIC representatives acknowledged the comments of the Minister for Local Government, Tony Simpson, reported recently in the media. They also acknowledged the campaign being run by the local governments opposed to the process, and the State Governments clear determination to proceed with Reform.
“The Metropolitan Implementation Committee (MetRIC) has set up two committees to examine the key matters facing local governments in the areas of Human Resources and Asset & Liability Transfer. The committees are expected to provide high-level strategic advice and guidelines to LGs.
“WALGA is continuing its work on research and development of realistic cost estimates for the reform process,” said Mayor Zelones.
In progressing with its work, the LIC will continue to seek information from the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale to achieve the best outcome for the communities and staff potentially involved.
The next meeting of the LIC will be held on Tuesday 29 July 2014 at the City of Armadale.
