A prominent sculpture has taken up residence in the Jull Street Mall.
The City of Armadale’s latest public artwork was officially unveiled in Jull Street Mall on Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the striking sculpture is a prominent marker as it welcomes travelers into the Jull Street Mall.
“It will join another prominent sculpture located at the top of the Mall known to many as Settlers Rest and reflective of our past. This latest work brings a balance to the Mall as this very modern work looks to the future.
“Public art plays an important role in the culture of a community and I am sure this sculpture will create a unique and vibrant meeting place for visitors to the mall, and become a talking point within the broader community.
“I’m proud to see this very significant project officially launched today and look forward to the conversation it will create in the community.
“This new artwork becomes a significant piece of an arts trail that celebrates the art, culture and heritage of the City of Armadale,” he said.
Perth artist Alister Yiap was commissioned by the City to create this vibrant, interactive artwork which represents the Past, Present and Potential. The ’Y’ shaped intersection represents the making of choices and decisions which shape the future or potential of our community.
The sculpture consists of pillars soaring into the sky; its form is suggestive of wings with the pillars standing as gate keepers or guardian angels. The artwork will be lit up at night and activate the space in darkness, and highlight the sculpture during the evenings.
