The works of aspiring young artists took centre stage at the Armadale District Hall on Friday evening for the opening of the City of Armadale’s 2023 Outside the Frame Awards evening presentation.
This year the City attracted entrants from 14 high schools across the Perth metropolitan region with 66 young artists exhibiting, including five local high schools.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield attended the opening night exhibition and presentation of the awards and described it as an opportunity to see into the minds of our youth.
“I am continually impressed by the imagination and creativity of these young year 11 and 12 upcoming artists. Their art is reflective of how they see the world and how they fit into it.
“It’s exciting to see the talent and to be able to foster the next generation of artists who may well start their careers through the exposure gained by these awards,” she said.
Local resident and Harrisdale Senior High School Student Emashi De Silva was awarded the Local Artist Award for her artwork piece named The Hidden Children. The judges said her artwork was interesting and engaging, showing great technique and pops of colour.
