Golf Course upgrades greening up for spring re-opening

A major upgrade to Armadale Golf Course is now in the final stages of completion with all nine holes reshaped, irrigated and recently planted with new grass.

Funded by the City of Armadale and Golf Oracle as well as a grant from the WA Department of Sport and Recreation, the $1 million upgrade started in July last year.

Upgrades will bring the public course up to par for regular patrons and will serve to attract new patronage and generate competition within the public golf sector.

While a mid-year re-opening was anticipated, course operator Golf Oracle and the City have opted for a later opening to allow new grass to establish.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the re-opening was now scheduled for early November.

“Alongside Oracle Golf, we wanted the course to open in the best possible condition and not suffer any setbacks because it was opened too early,” he said.

“Therefore we reached the conclusion that a spring growing period prior to reopening would be best to deliver an outcome everybody will be happy with.”

Mayor Zelones said Golf Oracle was well positioned to provide sound advice on the timeline, having had recent involvement in the redevelopment and maintenance of the Rottnest Island Golf Course.

“Therefore on the basis of ‘do it right, do it once’ the opening has been rescheduled and while the temporary inconvenience of having the course closed has extended beyond what was originally envisaged, we remain confident that the outcome will be excellent and well worth the effort.”
