It's National Parks Week from 4 to 12 March and the City of Armadale is celebrating by enlisting the help of a host of mythical and prehistoric creatures to entice your young digital natives into the great outdoors.
Download the app Magical Parks for your Android or Apple devices and when you visit the Armadale City Centre during the week, drop into Memorial Park to collect dinosaur eggs and run from dinosaurs, or walk through a fantasy land of fairies and unicorns to locate lost kittens.
Magical Park will transform selected City parks into a digital fantasy land, creating a virtual world seen through the app once you enter the boundaries of the park.
City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said there are a number of other community events around the City during Parks Week including Movies in the Park; Free Yoga in the Park, Get to know the trees of Armadale (a guided walk to discover the heritage and significant trees) or just enjoy the outdoor exercise equipment installed at a number of parks throughout the City.
The Magical Park app will also be available at Rushton Park in Kelmscott and the Harrisdale Playing Fields.
This new concept whilst still a digital app, is a fantastic opportunity to get the kids motivated and off the couch and moving outdoors to burn up some energy.
Combining outdoor play with technology will have the kids running around and having fun while they engage with other kids and enjoy a digital fantasy land.
“With the moderate weather we’ve experiencing, I encourage everyone to get involved with Parks Week by coming along to one of our Parks Week activities, or simply spending some special time in one of our great parks while you take a breath of fresh air and explore.
“We are very proud of the beautiful parks and reserves we have in the City of Armadale, especially the abundance of greenspace in the heart of our City Centre,” said Mayor Zelones.
