City welcomes new citizens on Australia Day

The City of Armadale welcomed 51 new citizens on Tuesday, January 26 as part of its Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony.

The conferees from 13 countries, including the United Kingdom (10 new citizens), Philippines (8), India (7) and Liberia (4) became Australian citizens, in a ceremony held at the Armadale District Hall.

“Each year we welcome new Australians to our growing community as part of Australia Day celebrations,” said City of Armadale Mayor, Ruth Butterfield.

“Australian Citizenship is a great privilege and a life-long commitment to our country’s shared values, including equality and opportunity for all people.

“The occasion also provided an opportunity to recognise the wonderful work of individuals and community groups, with the announcement of the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

“This year, we received 31 nominees, culminating in the Community Citizen of the Year Award which was tied by Bree Hartley and Veronica Read. I’d like to congratulate all of our winners and nominees for their inspiring community work.”
