Keeping the Jull Street Mall a vibrant and welcoming place for families has become the focus of the City again this year, with the Council approving a continuation of the trial of Community Liaison Officers over the festive shopping season.
Working in co-operation with the two major shopping centres and the Armadale Police, the friendly faces will return to the shopping precinct from November 2017 to February 2018.
City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said last year’s trial was successful in reducing anti-social behaviour in the Mall.
“Feedback from workers and the business community was positive, and contributed to an overall decrease in anti-social behaviour.”
The purpose of the patrols is to monitor any issues related to anti-social behaviour, identify those who may be causing discomfit to others on a regular basis and enlist direct intervention by the police if necessary.
Mayor Henry Zelones said that the Customer Liaison Officers were no substitute for real police and he would continue to advocate for a regular police presence in Jull Street at all times.
“The Community Liaison Officers will be able to move people on who display anti-social behaviour, and call the police if needed,” added Mayor Zelones.
