Armadale shoppers will see new, friendly faces in Jull Street this summer with the City of Armadale introducing Community Liaison Officers who will be acting to ensure the City’s main shopping precinct remains a vibrant and welcoming place for families during the festive shopping period.
Working in cooperation with the two major shopping centres, the City trial will run from November to January and will evaluate whether the presence of Community Liaison Officers can ease community concerns regarding anti social behaviour in the area.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the project forms part of the City’s commitment to ensuring a positive experience in the area.
“The important thing is to measure whether the officers can make a difference to the shopping experience,” he said.
“That will give the business community a good guide as to whether it is worth extending these services into the future.”
“The purpose of the project is to gauge the extent of problems related to anti social behaviour, identify those who may be causing discomfit to others on a regular basis and enlist direct intervention by the police if necessary,” he said.
Funded from the Jull Street Mall revitalisation project, the Community Liaison Officers will be on duty on weekday afternoons and peak business hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
