The City of Armadale and the Heart and Soul Men’s Shed in Forrestdale have developed a blender bike which uses pedal power to make smoothies.
The bike was built by volunteers at the Heart and Soul Men’s Shed using a blender and recycled exercise bike from the City of Armadale’s Drop n Shop.
“With over half of our residents not achieving the recommended levels of physical activity or daily fruit intake, the blender bike is a great way to get active and make your own healthy smoothie,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.
Heart and Soul Men’s Shed is renowned for their intricate wood sculpting. The Men’s Shed supports the mental health and wellbeing of its male participants by providing social interaction as they work on projects.
“The Blender Bike made its first public appearance at the Minnawarra Festival on 3 May and was a huge success with kids and families. The community jumped on and pedalled away to make more than 45 smoothies,” said Mayor Zelones.
