The City of Armadale is once again calling on aspiring young writers in the community to put pen to paper and enter the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards, which are held to encourage and recognise the writing creativity of young people across the City.
Entries for the online competition open on Tuesday 1 June and close on Wednesday 30 June 2021. The competition is open to students in Years 3 to 12 who reside, or attend school in the City of Armadale.
“The City is proud to continue to provide an opportunity for young writers to gain valuable feedback from judges and mentors. And the chance change to be a ‘published author’ is not to be missed,” said Mayor Ruth Butterfield.
“A love of reading and writing is incredibly valuable for kids and young adults, and it can encourage them to learn more about the world and explore their creative side.
“Every year we receive a flood of entries for this competition, and every year I’m stunned by the creativity and imagination shown by our young writers.
“If you have a story you’d like to tell, I’d strongly encourage you to enter.”
Entries must be prose only and stories should be 2000 words or less. Poetry, scripts or graphic novels will not be accepted.
In each category there will be a first prize of $200, second prize of $150 and a third prize of $100. An extra prize will be awarded for the work considered best overall. This will be judged from all the award winning entries and will receive a book voucher.
Each place getter will also receive a trophy, certificate and one free copy of the book containing all the award winning stories.
