The City of Armadale is reminding residents to conduct hazard preparation works throughout autumn.
Bushfires can start suddenly and without warning. Preparing your property by reducing the risks of potential hazards is the best way to keep your home, family and neighbourhood safe.
There are a range of works that you can undertake to prepare your properties.
- Tree pruning – remove lower branches, check that power lines are clear and use a contractor where required.
- Reduce fuel loads around your home – clear long grasses, leaves, twigs and flammable shrubs.
- Ensure petrol and other flammables are safely stored away from the home.
- Make sure everyone on your property is aware of your emergency plan, including evacuation routes.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said residents need to ensure their properties are up to standard throughout the year.
“Summer is bushfire season, however we need to be proactive and ensure our properties and community are safe throughout the year.
“Good hazard preparation is key. There are many simple ways you can prepare your homes and it is crucial we all work together to be bushfire ready,” he said.
